Salaries are rising for senior positions in PE

57 percent of investment professionals saw an increase in salary from 2017 to 2018.

Private equity professionals in North America have seen an increase in their base salaries from 2017 to 2018 with managing partners seeing the largest growth at 13.6 percent, according to a survey by Heidrick Struggles.

The recruitment firm surveyed more than 630 investment professionals in North America. Managing partners, which are the most senior level positions at a firm, reported an average base salary of $786,000 in 2018, up from $692,000 in 2017. Principals saw a 10.3 percent increase in average salary while partners/managers received an 8.1 percent increase.

Managing partners also received the largest amount of carry in 2017, on average banking more than $37 million. The junior rung – associates/senior associates – received an average of a little more than $904,000.

Overall compensation has been increasing in the private equity industry. 57 percent of investment professionals saw an increase in salary from 2017 to 2018, according to the report. Bonuses also increased for 77 percent of investment professionals from 2016 to 2017.
