Paul Hastings poaches Boies Schiller team

The corporate unit’s move to Paul Hastings in New York is the latest in a series of group departures at law firms internationally.

Paul Hastings, an international law firm, has hired a corporate team from Boies Schiller Flexner, a US-focused law firm headquartered in New York.

The team includes five corporate partners – Robert Leung, Mike Huang, Stefan dePozsgay, Jason Hill and Russell Franklin – and several associates. Their combined practice includes M&A, private equity and cross-border transactions, with a geographical specialism in Latin America.

Leung, Huang and Franklin all focus on private equity and private funds advisory work. Their clients have included EG Capital, Goldman Sachs and Goldman Sachs Capital Partners.

Boies has effectively wound up its 20-lawyer corporate practice to focus on growing its already successful litigation business, according to Legal Week.

Elsewhere, Kirkland & Ellis has reportedly hired a private equity lawyer from Weil, Gotshal & Manges in its Munich office. Volkmar Bruckner, a private equity transaction lawyer, will join Kirkland as a partner. His clients include Bain Capital and VM Capital.

Bruckner’s appointment follows a seven-partner departure from Kirkland to Sidley Austin, reported by pfm in February.
