Dorsey & Whitney set up shop in Dallas

The firm is hiring partners from Schiff Hardin, which is closing its office in the city.

Dorsey & Whitney is opening a private equity-focused office in Dallas, transferring partners from Schiff Hardin, which will shut its practice there after a strategic review.

The office will open on March 1, with the five establishing partners expected to be joined by more former Schiff Hardin colleagues.

The partners include Jamie Grammer Whatley, who represents a range of private equity funds in connection with investments, M&A and corporate governance, and Jason DuVall, who advises private equity funds on their acquisition financings of portfolio companies.

They are joined by Gina Betts, who often works on portfolio acquisitions and dispositions and fund formations, mezzanine finance specialist Stan Mayo and venture capital-focused Larry Makel.

Schiff Hardin opened its Dallas office in 2014.

Dorsey & Whitney is the second law firm to open a Dallas office this year – Winston & Strawn opened a practice at the beginning of February, which also has a strong private equity focus.
