SEC names deputy director of examinations

Jane Jarcho has been promoted to deputy director of the US agency’s Office of Compliance Inspections and Examinations.

The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has named Jane Jarcho deputy director of the Office of Compliance Inspections and Examinations (OCIE).

She has been promoted from her current role as national director of OCIE’s investment adviser and investment company exam program, a position that she has held since 2013. Jarcho will continue as national director alongside her new role, according to a statement from the SEC.

She started her career with the SEC in the Division of Enforcement in 1990, where she held various positions before joining OCIE in 2008.

As national director, Jarcho is responsible for overseeing around 600 lawyers, accountants and examiners responsible for inspections of US registered investment advisers and investment companies.

Under her leadership, examinations increased more than 27 percent and targeted areas such as cybersecurity, never-before-examined investment advisers and investment companies, fixed income funds, alternative mutual fund and retirement accounts, the SEC stated.

In January, OCIE issued its 2016 examination priorities which include reviewing how private funds manage side-by-side accounts and other conflicts while also examining private placement due diligence, disclosure and suitability.
