Greenberg Traurig nabs Debevoise partner

Ropes & Gray adds fund formation lawyer; Simpson Thacher expands in Washington; and more private fund lawyer moves.

• Greenberg Traurig appointed Sherri Caplan as a shareholder in the firm’s New York office. She joins the firm from Debevoise & Plimpton where she worked for 15 years as a corporate partner and member of the firm's private equity funds and investment management groups. Caplan has experience in the organization of private equity funds and the representation of fund investors in private equity funds. In addition, she advises sponsors of a range of funds, including real estate, buyout, infrastructure, energy, and mezzanine funds.

• Ropes & Gray added Amanda Persaud as partner in the firm’s private investment funds practice. She joins the firm’s New York office from Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, where she served as head of its private investment funds practice. Persaud has experience in the formation, fundraising and operation of private investment funds, including private equity funds, hedge funds, credit funds and other types of alternative asset funds. She also advises clients on a range of governance, operational and regulatory matters.

• Simpson Thacher & Bartlett appointed bank regulatory attorney Keith Noreika to the firm’s financial institutions practice team in Washington DC. Noreika joins the firm from Covington & Burling, where he worked as a partner. Noreika advises domestic and international financial institutions on regulatory issues relating to mergers and acquisitions, minority investments, capital issuances, structuring and compliance activities, and litigation matters. He also advises private equity funds with respect to investments in banking organizations.

• Shoosmiths hired Amit Nayyar as corporate partner in the firm’s Milton Keynes office. Nayyar joins the firm from Hogan Lovells, where he focused on private equity and mergers and acquisitions for more than nine years. Amit has acted as lead counsel on a variety of buyouts, bolt-on acquisitions, management incentive plans and exits, both on domestic and multi-jurisdictional transactions. He is also actively involved in outbound and inbound investment work in India. Amit has advised a number of private equity firms, including Rothschild in relation to its Five Arrows Principal Investments fund, Advent International and Trilantic Capital Partners.

• Daniel Paulos joined Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson as a partner in the firm’s tax practice. He joins the firm’s New York office from Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, where he worked for close to 10 years in the firm’s tax team. Paulos advises clients on the formation and operation of private equity funds and hedge funds. He has experience in US and international tax matters, with a focus on planning and structuring complex cross-border transactions.
