Latham nabs financial regulatory head from Ashurst

Baker & McKenzie announces 85 partnership promotions; Bedell Cristin adds to Singapore office; and more private fund lawyer moves.

• Latham & Watkins added Rob Moulton as partner in the firm’s financial institutions group in London. Moulton joins the firm from Ashurst where he served for over five years. Moulton has two decades of experience advising financial services players, including investment banks, corporate finance houses, fund managers and insurers on a variety of legal and regulatory risk management matters. He specializes in advising clients on the Financial Conduct Authority’s Conduct of Business Rules and European regulatory developments such as Markets in Financial Instruments Directive.

• Baker & McKenzie promoted 85 lawyers across the firm's global offices to partner. The promotions have been made across all of the firm’s practices, the majority of which were made in its tax, banking and finance, dispute resolution and mergers and acquisitions departments. Forty percent, or 34, of the new promotions are women. All are effective from July 1. The promotions include London-based corporate lawyer David Scott, who specializes in advising private equity funds on cross-border mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and other corporate law matters.

• Bedell Cristin promoted Kristian Wilson to partner in the firm's Singapore office. He has been with the firm since June 2013 and handles a variety of corporate and financial matters, including joint ventures, private equity and cross-border transactions. Prior to joining Bedell, Kristian worked as an associate in Conyers Dill & Pearman’s British Virgin Islands office, Ogier’s Jersey office and Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom’s London office.

• Ashurst introduced a new global management structure, effective beginning of June. The new structure has been rolled out across the firm’s corporate, finance and disputes practices. Geoff Gishubl, who is based in the firm’s based in the Perth office, will co-lead the corporate practice alongside London-based lawyer Robert Ogilvy Watson. Ogilvy Watson specializes in advising corporate clients and financial institutions in relation to cross-border mergers and acquisitions, private equity and securities transactions, including IPOs and secondary offerings. Helen Burton and Sydney-based James Marshall will co-lead the finance team. Burton represents private equity firms, banks and corporations in cross-border transactions. London-based Simon Bromwich will continue to lead the disputes practice.

• Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom has hired Robert Porter as of counsel in London. Porter joins the firm from Reed Smith, where he was a partner in the private equity real estate practice for two years. In his new role he will head Skadden's European real estate private equity practice. Prior to this Porter worked at Allen & Overy for nine years and was a partner at Clifford Chance for four years. In addition, Skadden appointed Kenji Taneda as a partner in the firm’s Tokyo office. He joins the firm’s corporate practice from Morrison & Foerster. He has experience advising on both public and private M&A transactions.
