Latham adds German M&A guru

Former NYC Mayor Rudolph Giuliani joins Greenberg Traurig as cybersecurity chair; Jones Day opens in Brisbane; and more private fund lawyer moves.

• Latham & Watkins welcomed leading Linklaters M&A lawyer Rainer Traugott to the firm as a partner in the corporate department of its Munich office. Traugott, who has more than 20 years of industry experience, focuses his practice on representing large German corporates and private equity firms on M&A transactions.

• Former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani joined Greenberg Traurig as global chair of the firm's cybersecurity and crisis management practice and senior advisor to firm executive chairman Richard Rosenbaum. Marc Mukasey will also join Greenberg and will serve as global co-chair of the firm's White Collar Defense Practice. Mukasey previously served as Deputy Chief Appellate Attorney and Unit Chief for the US Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York and was a former staff attorney at the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

• Jones Day opened its third location in Australia with an office in Brisbane, Queensland. The Brisbane office, the law firm’s 43rd worldwide, will initially focus on M&A, major projects and project-related disputes, with an emphasis on the natural resources, construction, transport and agriculture sectors.

• Paul Hastings appointed Bill Brady as a partner in New York and head of the firm’s alternative lender group. Brady was previously a partner at Proskauer, representing alternative lenders. Brady’s practice at Paul Hastings focuses on complex finance transactions and credit arrangements, particularly financings that include a junior capital component or multiple tranches of debt.

• Walker Morris expanded its corporate group with the appointment of new partner Daniel O'Gormanfrom DWF, where he served as national head of the equity capital markets group.  O’Gorman has particular experience in international and cross-border M&A for corporate and private equity clients.

• Weil, Gotshal & Manges made a lateral partner hire, as well as a string of partnership promotions. Charles Ching joined the firm’s China practice as a corporate partner from the Hong Kong office of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer. In its New York office, the firm promoted private equity lawyer Garret Charon, private funds lawyer Stephanie Srulowitz and M&A lawyerSachin Kohli. In London, Weil promoted private equity lawyer James Harvey and private equity tax lawyers David Irvine and Oliver Walker.

• Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe opened a Houston office, which will have a founding team of about 20 partners. The office will focus on serving the energy & infrastructure, technology and finance sectors.
