ESMA names chair of investment management committee

The Irish Central Bank’s Martin Moloney will lead the body that develops AIFMD guidelines.

The European Securities and Markets Authority has appointed Martin Moloney as chair of its Investment Management Standing Committee.

He is currently head of markets policy at the Central Bank of Ireland, a position he has held since 2012. Moloney is also the Irish alternate member of the Board of Supervisors of ESMA.

He replaces former chair Gareth Murphy, chief risk officer at Standard Life Investments, who stepped down from the role in September, but remains part of the working group.

The IMSC advises ESMA and the European Commission on investment management policy and develop technical standards, guidelines and recommendations relating to the AIFMD.

The Committee is supported by a stakeholder working group including Stuart Corrigall, head of product structuring at BlackRock, EMEA region, and Patricia Volhard, a fund formation partner at Debevoise & Plimpton.
