Northleaf makes legal hire

Matt Murphy has been appointed legal counsel in the private equity firm’s Toronto office.

Northleaf Capital, an international private equity firm, has appointed a legal counsel.

Matt Murphy has joined the firm in its Toronto office, advising on its transactions as well as structuring its funds.

Murphy was most recently an associate at Torys, a North America-focused commercial law firm. There he advised on private equity transactions and fund formation matters.

The firm has added a number of staff in recent months. Simon Bibeau joined as an infrastructure associate in its Toronto office earlier this month, while a new private credit associate, Christopher Wang, was announced last month. He joined its Chicago office.

The series of hires rounds off a busy first quarter for Northleaf, which held a final close on its Infrastructure Capital Partners II at $950 million.
