Taylor Wessing merges with Dutch firm

The tie-up will provide the corporate law firm with two new offices in Amsterdam and Eindhoven.

International law firm Taylor Wessing has expanded to the Netherlands by merging with Dutch law firm Deterink. The two firms had been sharing cross-border work under a strategic relationship since 2011.

The merger takes Taylor Wessing’s fee earning headcount to more than 1,200 across 28 offices in Europe, the US, Middle East and Asia, including now two offices in Amsterdam and Eindhoven, covering the main financial and tech hubs of the Netherlands.

The merger with Deterink, a firm best known for its corporate M&A, intellectual property and employment law work, will mean the arrival of 54 new lawyers (including seven partners) under the Taylor Wessing brand.

Taylor Wessing managing partner Tim Eyles said in a statement that Deterink is a “perfect partner” for the firm because it offers local business knowledge and connections with the Dutch business community while preserving an “international mentality.”

The two new offices will “not just be 'hubs' for international clients, but also leaders for national work,” said Eyles.
