HarbourVest deepens compliance and legal bench

After Danielle Green’s departure from the global investment management firm, William Royer has been named chief compliance officer.

HarbourVest Partners has named William Royer, former chief compliance officer at Vanguard, to lead compliance.

The move follows the departure of former CCO Danielle Green after more than six and a half years with the firm. Royer reports to Paula Drake, general counsel.

Green did not respond to a request for comment via LinkedIn, but has removed HarbourVest from her profile. Her next move is unclear.

Royer joined HarbourVest in May as a managing director and took up the CCO role on Green’s departure in June, according to a press release. Additionally, he will aid the firm’s global regulatory compliance program and advise the firm’s portfolio construction and conflicts committee.

He joins at time when HarbourVest is beefing up its legal and compliance team: it has more than doubled in the last two years, according to a spokeswoman for the firm, who declined to give numbers.

Royer has a combined 30 years of experience in law and compliance in private companies as well as the Securities and Exchange Commission. Before leading HarbourVest’s compliance team in Boston, he served as CCO at Vanguard Global Advisors focusing his global compliance expertise around equity, fixed income and derivatives. Before this, he served as associate regional director for the SEC’s Atlanta office.
