White & Case opens Boston office

The firm has recruited four white collar and civil litigation lawyers with experience in private equity disputes from McDermott Will & Emery.

US law firm White & Case has opened its sixth office in the United States, recruiting four white collar and civil litigation lawyers from rival law firm McDermott Will & Emery.

All four partners have experience in white collar and civil litigation, including domestic and international arbitrations and private equity disputes. They represent clients in the healthcare, financial services, manufacturing and energy industries.

Spearheading White & Case’s new Boston office is former head of McDermott’s white collar and defense practice Michael Kendall, alongside partners Kevin Bolan and Lauren Papenhausen. The fourth member of the team Andrew Tomback will be based in the firm’s New York office.

Prior to McDermott, Kendall worked as an assistant US attorney and deputy associate attorney general and counselor in the US Department of Justice for seven years. He specialises in representing healthcare companies and clients in cross-border disputes.

“White collar and commercial litigation work, for which Mike, Kevin, Lauren and Andrew are particularly well regarded, are integral to our disputes practice, an area we’ve specifically targeted for growth,” White & Case executive committee member and head of the firm's US growth team Dave Koschik said in a statement.

The new Boston launch is part of the White & Case’s new five-year strategy to expand in the US, according to the statement. The new office is the firm’s sixth location in the US and 39th globally.
