EY names new UK head of real estate

The global advisory, assurance and tax firm has appointed its former UK real estate tax leader to the position.

EY has promoted Russell Gardner as UK head of the firm’s real estate, hospitality and construction sector. He succeeds Dean Hodcroft, who left EY after more than 25 years to join London-based start-up, Cale Street Partners.

Gardner, who joined EY in 2000, previously led the firm’s UK real estate tax business and has worked on many significant real estate and leisure transactions, both in the UK and internationally.

“I am delighted to have been appointed to my new role, especially at a time when there is such momentum in the market and there is so much potential for our business to grow and thrive,” said Gardner in a statement. “We already have a great business and work with leading clients in each of the component parts of our sector. I am looking forward to working with all our people to build an even stronger business.”

EY’s real estate, hospitality and construction practice comprises more than 300 UK-based professionals across tax, consultancy and corporate finance. The team has been involved in deals such as the sale of the Battersea Power Station and Urban & Civic’s reverse takeover of Aim-listed Terrace Hill Group.
