PEGCC spokesman steps down

Ken Spain will join Koch Industries as a managing director for external relations.

After four years with the Private Equity Growth Capital Council (PEGCC), the buyout industry’s US lobbying arm, Ken Spain is leaving to manage external relations for Koch Industries, the multinational corporation headed by billionaire conservatives Charles and David Koch.

As vice president of public affairs and communications at the PEGCC, Spain was responsible for the launch of an initiative to connect private equity-backed portfolio company managers with members of Congress and also spearheaded the development of the “Private Equity at Work” campaign that sought to educate the media, policymakers and the general public about the value of private equity to the US economy.

The campaign was launched before the 2012 presidential election, a time when the buyout industry was under heavy scrutiny following the Republican nomination of former Bain executive Mitt Romney for president.

Prior to joining the PEGCC, Spain was communications director of the National Republican Congressional Committee.
