Offshore firm Carey Olsen grows Bermuda office

Mary Ward has joined the firm from rival Conyers Dill & Pearman, and will advise on all aspects of commercial and corporate law.

Carey Olsen has hired Mary Ward from rival offshore law firm Conyers Dill & Pearman to bolster its Bermuda office less than six months after opening on the island.

Ward spent 15 years at Conyers Dill & Pearman in Bermuda, where she was counsel in the corporate department.

Prior to Conyers Dill & Pearman, Ward worked for Linklaters in New York and Slaughter and May in London. She will take up her new position in June, expanding the firm’s team in Bermuda to six.

Ward will advise on all aspects of commercial and corporate law. The firm said she has extensive experience in securities law, mergers and acquisitions, restructuring of private and public companies and private equity.

“We are delighted to have Mary join us. From the outset, our aim has been to build a market leading full-service offering and Mary will play a key role in that strategy,” said Michael Hanson, a managing partner of Carey Olsen Bermuda. “She brings with her a tremendous reputation and is considered one of Bermuda’s most technically accomplished corporate lawyers.”

Carey Olsen, which has offices across a number of offshore territories including the British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, Guernsey and Jersey, opened in Bermuda in November.

Last year the firm boosted its Asia presence, hiring a counsel in Singapore.
