MUFG nabs sales head from State Street

The Japanese investment bank is expanding its ‘asset servicing’ division; earlier this year it acquired Neuberger Berman’s private equity fund administration business.

MUFG Investor Services, the global asset servicing arm of Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, has appointed Marc Russell-Jones as head of business development for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Russell-Jones joins MUFG from State Street where he worked as head of asset manager sector solutions for the Nordics and UK for nearly two years.

Prior to this he worked as managing director in prime brokerage and head of EMEA sales for alternative investment services at JP Morgan.

In his new role Russell-Jones will be responsible for driving the growth of MUFG Investor Services’ asset servicing solutions across private equity and real estate funds, hedge funds and fund of funds in the EMEA region, according to a statement from MUFG. Solutions offered by the asset management unit include fund administration, middle-office outsourcing, custody, depository, trustee and wider banking services.

He will report into John Sergides, managing director, global head of business development and marketing, in New York.

“With his extensive experience in the alternative investment industry, Marc will play a significant role in extending our best in-class asset servicing solutions for our clients in EMEA. His appointment demonstrates our commitment to the industry and supports our ambition to become the leading player in the market,” Sergides said in the statement.

MUFG Investor Services has made a number of appointments in its sales team this year. Mark Catalano joined the asset management unit as executive director for business development in February from Atlas Fund Services, while former managing director in BNY Mellon’s Alternative Investment Services business Michael McCabe was appointed as sales director in April and BlackRock’s McAllister Kirschner joined as global head of relationship management in May.

The hires follow MUFG Investor Services acquisition of Neuberger Berman’s private equity fund administration business Capital Analytics for an undisclosed amount in February, as reported by pfm.
